Boat Insurance: What is Personal Liability cover?
This cover can help protect you and your immediate family from your or their potential liabilities to other people for death, injury, or property damage, incurred while away from the vessel. Cover may also be provided for other costs and expenses incurred in defending such claims.
You select what cover limit you require up to £3 million, and there is no excess for you to pay in respect of a claim under this cover.
There are various exclusions which apply to this section, such as there being no cover for claims arising from your ownership of the vessel insured (see 'What is Third Party Liability cover?' for details of such cover), or for claims arising out of the use of motorised vehicles.
This cover is included automatically when you have selected the ‘Houseboat Contents’ option under the boat insurance policy.
The Policy Booklet contains full details about how this cover operates, including any exclusions or conditions. Existing policyholders can download copies of the applicable Booklet for their policy by following the guide described here.
